All of these live sheep exports are going to Muslim countries. This is a clear example of cultural prejudices influencing policy decisions. It's though cruel to have the animals penned up on a ship but cut the trade and the sheep will have to slaughtered anyway. And as you state the farmers will also lose their livelihoods, so everyone is a loser.
