Besides trying to ram their version of religion down everyone's throats they have done this because they want it to go up to the Supreme Court. A lot of them now think that the Supreme Court is packed with conservative justices that are so morally corrupt that they will side with this law in contravention to the Constitution. It is part of their attempt to overthrow the Constitution of the United States and replace it with a "Christian" theocracy.
