During the Klondike gold rush there was one woman miner who had a claim. This was fairly unusual at the time. She had eight men working for her. After some time, they had all amassed some gold and the men wanted to go off to the nearest town, tie one on and have some fun. However, the nearest town was a week's journey by mule so this meant that they would be gone for two weeks at least. The woman working the claim did not want to lose her staff for so long so she told them that if they stayed on the job that she would 'service' them herself. They agreed to this, and she did. She then deducted $50 each from their next pay packet! Now that's creative management!
