I met Hunter Thompson once back around 1975. I think at that time that some of his drinking and drug taking was a pose that he indulged in as part of his 'image.'

During his talk he did handle a couple of female hecklers with adept aplomb.

One woman asked him with clear PC intent why he didn't have any women in his books.

He said that he had congenital syphilis and as a result he wasn't able to meet many women and therefore didn't know very much about them.

I think you would have appreciated his humor and response.

I then ran into him on the street outside the venue where he was getting into a convertible being driven by an extremely good-looking woman.
