I'm not familiar with that particular piece of stupidity in respect of the parachutes but it doesn't surprise me in the least. I'm sure that you know that Haig and French thought that cavalry would play a major part in the war. The war has got to be one of the most incompetently fought wars in history, and for what, for the Imperial ambitions of a bunch of inbred aristocrats.
I'm going to do another post about Walter's older brother who was shot in the head by a sniper on Boxing Day, 1915.
Speaking of British fighter pilots one of my favorite movies ever and the best flying movie in my opinion is 'Dawn Patrol' with Basil Rathbone and David Niven.
