I’m not sure who you are referring to when you say ‘man’ in the sentence above. I thought that I was clear that the fellow in the story was a prick and that I do hate the player. Also he made his uselessness as a friend or partner pretty clear from the outset and there was no lack of clarity that he was not worth wasting any time on.
