The example is really more aimed at an American audience so I used 'me mum' as it sounds more British to their ears. I also didn't like the repetition of 'my' three times in one sentence. The use of 'it's a bit off really' is to highlight the British use of understatement. Think the words of Brigadier Thomas Brodie of the 'Glorious Glosters' at the Imjin River as his command was about to be wiped out, "A bit sticky, things are pretty sticky down there."
