The Wizard of Oz has a number of dark and scary moments. I haven't seen ET.

When I was six I watched 'Invaders from Mars'. I was scared for ages by that movie and wouldn't go into the basement after dark in case there were Martians lurking there, so I understand exactly what you are talking about.
