This reminds me of a Twighlight Zone episode where the fellow leaves the roadside diner and ends up on the wagon trail or the other way around a father and his son from the 19th century come across the modern highway. I can't remember exactly, but in any case, it would appear that the Old Prospector ran into Rod Serling on his way to Walmart.
