We certainly have a different view of Britain in the 70s. I first arrived in England in 1972 when I was 17. I spent a year at Abingdon School before returning to the US. I came back in the fall of 74, talked my way into Oxford University and stayed until January 79. I loved it. The country was somewhat grim and dysfunctional. Labour was in its most addled Stalinist period. The Tories were chaotic. The Empire was lost and no one knew what to do or who to be and it was full of backward looking people. Then Margaret Thatcher dragged the country kicking and screaming into the 20th century. I haven't posted too much about my time in the UK yet as I have been bust with other matters, but you might enjoy one or two things. And yes, Brexit was just about the stupidest thing that they have done since Suez.
