When I lived in England in 1974 and was working for the USAF and living in Bicester I had a lot of exposure to young working-class British males. In many towns in England for that class Saturday night was for getting drunk and getting into a fight. That was recreation driven by a lack of sex. Working class girls at that time guarded their virtue closely as it was tied up with their marriage prospects. It's very different these days as the women have jobs and their own money so they are out 'on the pull'. Several years ago, I met a call girl from Liverpool who said that her friends back in Liverpool were having more sexual partners than she was since she had started escorting!

But there is no question easy access to sex reduces violence in any society.
