When the son of the famous Governor of Iraq, Hajaj bin Yousuf turned 3, Hajaj turned him over to his tutors with the instruction, ‘Teach him to swim before you teach him to write’. When asked why, Hajaj said, Because any man in his station in life will always be able to find someone to write for him but will never be able to find someone to swim for him’.
