You and I have had a similar experience in life. In my case it was boredom more than depression that influenced my drug taking when I was young. LSD and mescaline were my favorites.

It was actually Oxford University that got me out of that as I was intellectually stimulated and challenged in a way that drugs interfered with my studies. I smoked hashish once early in my first year and it took me 48 hours before I could properly focus again. I've only smoked about twice in my life since then. It's rather pointless and I don't enjoy the lethargy that it provokes. I have only taken psylocibin once in my early 20s. It was interesting. A girlfriend that I used to do drugs with when we were teenagers suggested that we try it again now that its quasi legal, but I think that at my age it will only highlight my perception of my physical decline.

In any case you have now inspired me to post something about my use of psychedelics. Have you ever read a book called 'Storming Heavan'? It is a history of LSD in America and is very interesting.
