Your references to Sufi chanting triggered a couple of memories. I think that I read in one of your posts that you are from Pakistan originally? In that case you must have had exposure to Barelwi Imams, hence the Sufi connection. I knew a very colorful one who lived in Manchester, England, Mawlana Firashwi. He was a very interesting character.
